NHIA Receives Honor from NewYorkBIO
October 3, 2022 – At its Annual Meeting on September 28, The National Home Infusion Association (NHIA) was honored as a “COVID Hero of New York” by NewYorkBIO, a group that brings together nearly 300 of the state’s bioscience companies, universities, research institutions, and others dedicated to advancing life science research and commercialization.
The COVID Heroes of New York awards showcase members of NewYorkBIO who were at “ground zero” when the pandemic swept the United States and pulled together to keep Americans and America’s health care workforce safe. The award was presented to NHIA on behalf of its member pharmacies that participated in a pilot program to administer the life-saving monoclonal antibodies to nursing home residents and staff at the beginning of the pandemic. Infusion pharmacies track and report patient outcomes, which helped the association secure Medicare reimbursement for home administration of monoclonals to patients for whom clinic-based infusions are not feasible or clinically appropriate.

I am in awe of the work that Connie and her colleagues at NHIA did to ensure that patients had access to the COVID treatments they needed in a safe environment like home, including nursing homes,” said Jennifer Hawks Bland, CEO NewYorkBIO.
NHIA’s Clinical Program Manager Michelle Simpson, PharmD, BCSCP, MWC presented research conducted by the National Home Infusion Foundation (NHIF) at ID Week, the meeting of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) held October 19-23 in Washington, D.C.
A diverse group of 30 patient and stakeholder groups are calling on Congress to address Medicare beneficiary access to home infusion services. In a letter to lawmakers, which brings together stakeholders from across the care continuum, the groups urge congressional leaders to advance the Preserving Patient Access to Home Infusion Act (S. 2652/H.R. 5067) and increase access to home infusion therapy for Medicare beneficiaries.
Registration is now open for the National Home Infusion Association’s 2023 Annual Conference (NHIA 2023), to be held March 25-29, 2023, at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
