NHIA's Bill Noyes Discusses New Coverage Criteria for Parenteral & Enteral Nutrition on ASPEN's Podcast

November 29, 2021

In November 2020, the Durable Medical Equipment Medicare Advisory contractors retired the Local Coverage Determinants (LCDs) for home parenteral and enteral nutrition (PEN). On September 5, 2021 new LCDs took effect after close to 4 decades of no change and are expected to greatly improve access to this benefit.

This podcast discusses the new LCDs, what it means for home PEN patients and home providers. It also addresses the challenges that still exist in home PEN Medicare coverage which will require advocacy from ASPEN, its partners such as NHIA, home care clinicians and patients.

CMS has recently announced it will retire the Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition National Coverage Determinations (NCDs); thus, coverage will be defined by the Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs).  To learn more, watch this webinar on Medicare’s Coverage Criteria for PN & EN, also featuring NHIA’s Bill Noyes and Optum Specialty & Infusion’s Penny Allen.
